I Am Myself

I Am Myself

I am myself, I said to me,
Such as a River flows to the sea,
A twisting, turning tide of the young,
Awaiting the time for my song to be song.

I am myself I said to me,
Such as the flower draws the bee,
A dainty, delicate decisive chore,
Awaiting the time when I shall do more.

I am myself I said to me,
Such as the pod shelters the pea,
A green, growing gods design,
Awaiting the time when I shall shine.

I am myself I said to me,
Such as the child laughs with glee,
A happy, hurried helpful soul,
Awaiting the time when I am whole.

I am myself I said to me,
Such as the reaching of a tree,
A stretching, strong striving kind,
Awaiting the time when I share my mind.

I am myself I said to me,
Such as the bird on air flies free,
A questing, quiet, quilted dove,
Awaiting the time when I find love.

I am myself I said to me,
Such as the might of the tiniest flea,
A jumping, jitter, jolting pest,
Awaiting the time to show my best.

I am myself I said to you,
Such as the envelope is held by glue,
A friend, follower, forever pal,
Awaiting our time to come, it shall.

I am myself I said to me,
Such as the lock opens by key,
A wonderful wide-eyed girl unfurled,
Arriving at my time in this world.
