INDEPENDENCE DAY 2010
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
On July 4, 1776, the men and women of this country came together and found a singular voice that set this country free. Free from oppressive rule, over taxation, unbalanced law and government prosperity at the cost of its citizenry and place this Nation at the forefront of the World.
They believed in the very principles of “freedom” and were willing to accept the responsibilities and consequences of those principles to live in a country where their voices were heard and united for the good of all.
The sacrifices they made as a Nation as well as individuals layed the foundation needed to insure a lasting freedom. They envisioned a government run by the people and a prosperity for all at the burden of none. They were united by that belief and were willing to defend their freedom at any cost.
Sadly today as we come together to celebrate this holiday the focus of many will not be on the true meaning of what this day means but rather on bar-b-ques, parties and fireworks. We have forgotten our own history and have become complacent as a Nation and a people.
We have compromised the principles that freed us and in its wake have given rise to oppressive government, over taxation, unbalanced laws and a new government that prospers at the expense of those it serves. We have surrendered our basic rights to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness in favor of personal gain and turned a blind eye to our neighbors.
We have become a Nation divided and unless we are willing to follow and hold true to the vision of those who gave us these freedoms, the Nation we will leave to those who follow us will be just a shadow of what we once were.
So I ask that on this Independence Day, as you stand and watch the fireworks light up the night sky you take a moment to look at the people around you and renew your personal belief in these words…
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America,
This is our country born of those willing to fight to make her free
And to the Republic for which it stands,
We are the government as a whole
One Nation, under God, Indivisible,
We are a singular voice that can not be silenced
With Liberty and Justice for All.
We are not just a land called America, we are and always will be, AMERICANS!

While I am not promoting religion I can not deny that the founding fathers wove into the fabric of this Nation a belief in a higher power as a means to guide and direct all it’s people.
